Fairy Godmother to modern brides!

I began working on one of my favourite tiaras yesterday...the Elegance Tiara. Brides magazine have shown interest in writing a feature about 'Design a Tiara', and they've requested a number of tiaras to photograph for the 'possible' article, including Elegance.  But I have to confess that my stock is almost empty...so I'm making a few pieces to send onto them this week.

The 'Design a Tiara' feature is such an amazing step-by-step process to designing your own tiara. I came up with the idea, as most of my bespoke clients loved a particular tiara design...but wanted it in a different colour...with different jewels etc.  So talking with my brother Paul, a genius web creator & designer, the idea of an interactive online feature was born.  Paul has spent many, many hours creating and refining this ingenious online designer...and we recently launched it on our website MiaMasri.com.

All you have to do is follow the step by step links...pick a ‘skeleton’ tiara design, add one of the base styles to your chosen piece, and you’re on your way to creating your own tiara. Choosing the jewels is my favourite step and it just adds the finishing touches…as you get to select various colours & sizes of Swarovskis, pearls & gemstones to complement your wedding colour theme!

It's my way of offering a bespoke tiara to everyone...without the bespoke price-tag and without any diary complications and geographical restraints...and the best bit is once you've had fun creating your tiara, you get to just sit back and relax while I make your own design by hand!

That's as close to being a fairy-godmother as I can get right now!!!  I think it's the perfect solution for the modern bride...who can now get exactly what she wants!

Late night activities!

No, no no...I'm not talking about those kind of late night activities...I'm talking about the fact that sometimes I get a little carried away when I'm making jewellery and suddenly it's 12.30am and I'm surrounded by bright lights and crystals.

Well, last night was one such night.  I'm working on creating a new 'Entwine Tiara' for You and Your Wedding magazine.  I hand make every tiara to order, so they can be in any jewels or colours...but this one I made with clear and opal Swarovski crystals and tiny ivory faux pearls. It's really beautiful and is one of my bestselling wedding tiaras for brides, and so I've joined forces with You and Your Wedding magazine for an online competition to win this tiara.  This morning I've taken a photo of it and it'll be flying the internet highway and onto their website very soon.

But this is the bit where I got carried away...I then started to make the Angel Choker.  I'd like to say it was for one of my clients, but this one is purely for me!!! I love it.  I've had it in gold for ages, but I made this silver with clear quartz gemstones and it goes with anything. So there I am at nearly 1am...but I'm well on my way to having one of my favourite designs in my own jewellery box!  Surely it's worth a few late nights to have such a luxurious collection of my own!

Gold Goddess

I have to admit I designed my wedding jewellery and tiara before I knew what dress I was having. The colour theme was never really a big dilema...RED! It's in my hair...my bedroom...my car...why not my wedding!

I've been delaying buying the jewels for my wedding tiara and accessories, but I'm now on the verge of a splurge!  I'm dreaming of rich red ruby gemstones cut as teardrops, but the rubies I've found so far are much pinker than I've imagined.  Maybe my faceted teardrops will have to be a deep red garnet gemstone instead, surrounded by sparkling Swarovski crystals.

I'm not normally a gold girl...it's silver rings and silver things...but last year I wore gold accessories for a friends wedding in Vegas (the Bellagio, of course!), and I felt positively glowing.  Then in December my gorgeous man proposed to me and presented me with his grandmothers engagement ring...a beautiful antique gold ring set with three diamonds.  So now I'm thinking my wedding is the perfect time to feel like a goddess and go gold!

The design...well, you'll have to come back to see some sketches later. But I will say...it's not what I'd have imagined I would go for.

Behind the lens

Yesterday was my first experience of being in front of a video camera lens...and I'm afraid I'm not the natural I hoped I'd be! My fiance and I began filming for a short video clip which will soon be making its way onto my website front page www.MiaMasri.com.

We started outside in the glorious sunshine, but it seemed that everyone else (and their dog) in the local vicinity levitated towards us.  I've got a few more jewellery fans now...but not a lot of video footage!  Back at my studio we finished things off...with close-ups of me completing a new gorgeous tiara called 'Sanctuary' (rough picture above) and a short interview of me introducing my business.

We actually had a really fun day...and are inspired to create a whole series of short films showing everything from sketching jewellery designs through to client testimonials. I've got my fingers crossed that Natalie Imbruglia will be among my client recommendations as she owns the 'Chained Desire' necklace from our sterling silver range...so watch this space!
